Asthma rates rising in US

Wednesday, May 4, 2011

According to the Wall Street Journal, asthma rates are rising for both children and adults - 24.6 million Americans had asthma in 2009, and the number is likely still larger today.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that asthma costs grew to about $56 billion in 2007.  These costs include medication as well as lost productivity from missing work and missing school.

To learn more, check out the article - it will be available at the Wall Street Journal website for approximately 7 days.

And if you want to access it later, remember that you can search for and retrieve articles from the LIRN database (login 34905).

Just click on the link for LIRN (in the Everest Online Resources column, on the right), enter the login number, then select Infotrac from the list of databases.

Once you're in Infotrac, select Academic OneFile from the list.  Once it's open, select the "Browse Publications" link.  From there you can type "Wall Street Journal" or the name of any other periodical into the "Find Title" search box, and from there you'll be able to select your publication and search for and retrieve articles.
